Tamara Leacock is a designer who integrates recycled, discarded, and unaltered materials, such as calico, into designs and hand dyes them in her studio in Balaclava.
Under her label REMUSE she creates unique pieces that are androgynous, oftentimes free size, and pull inspiration from Afro-Futurist aesthetics.
As a stylist and image maker, she is interested in how images can challenge dominant culture and provoke new thoughts on the social body.
In New York under artist name ReciclaGEM, Tamara has been creating one of a kind wearable art recycled designs inspired by social and political events and hybrid American identity, since 2009, informed by her familial heritage from the Bahamas, Brazil, St. Kitts and the United States.
In 2014, Tamara launched her first RTW label, REMUSE Designs, in her new home, Melbourne.
Many light years in space
I’ll wait for you.
Where human feet have never trod,
Where human eyes have never seen.
I'll build a world of abstract dreams
And wait for you."
